The film was banned in Sri Lanka by the government for its controversial content.
Plot
The film consists of three stories that are set in different locations and time periods in Sri Lanka. The first story, titled "The Land," follows a young soldier who returns to his village after a long absence. He rekindles his relationship with his childhood sweetheart, who is now married to another man. The soldier also has a sexual encounter with a widow who lives nearby. The second story, titled "The Sky," follows a teenage girl who lives in a boarding school in Colombo. She falls in love with a Tamil boy who works as a cleaner in the school. They have a secret affair, but their relationship is threatened by the ethnic tensions and violence that erupt in the city. The third story, titled "The Sea," follows a fisherman who lives in a coastal town. He is married to a woman who was raped by a group of soldiers during the war. He also has a mistress who works as a prostitute. He becomes involved in smuggling weapons for the Tamil rebels, but his life is endangered when he is caught by the navy.
